Street Etiquette have just released their collaboration with Del Toro. Del Toro are undoubtedly one of the finest purveyors of slippers (of the refined sort, not the pink fluffy variety) and thus we can be sure of the quality of the piece. But it’s not so much the make as the design and what these two simple shoes mean.
The design is simple, seemingly ragged and somewhat worn, and one can instantly gauge the desired atmosphere for the shoes by looking at Del Toro’s ads for them. The rustic house, filled with books and various miscellenia that probably comes straight from your great grandfather’s attic, conjures up an image of the academic in his lair, reading his poetry. Or maybe an artiste, sitting by his easel, dreaming of his next conjuring.
But stop and think for a second about what this collaboration means. No, not the pretentious ramblings above but rather what it means for Street Etiquette to be collaborating with such a magnificent company. It shows that this small, remote corner of the blogosphere that many of us inhabit, can not only put together an amazing photoshoot on a daily basis but can create something entirely new for us mere mortals to slip on and so join the elite ranks of the creatives that fuel our inspirations. This psychical manifestation of the minds of Joshua and Travis represents a leap forward for the Black Ivy movement. No longer should we expect everyone to be wearing this thrifted RLL piece and that pair of battered desert boots. Rather, I think we can look forward to pieces designed by those leaders we look up to and can hope to wear such badges that indicate our being in.
