So recently I’ve become a complete magazine junkie, what with endless train journeys, some taking five hours! In the last few days I’ve devoured (I rather like the analogy) Interview and Dazed and Confused, two magazines i’ve never picked up before. Well suffice to say I am now hooked on both. Interview is fascinating, and regardless of how interested I was in the people being interviewed beforehand, after the article I resolved to do my homework on each and every one of them. Dazed was an eye opening read. From rave clubs in Brooklyn to high fashion, dissecting music and politics in between these two, the magazine was a source of inspiration for any creative mind! But the articles that really stuck with me from both of these publications were the interviews with ASAP Rocky (Rakim Meyers) and the ASAP collective.

I only heard of ASAP thanks to Madbury last year with “Peso” receiving a brief playing on my itunes and then never really being listened to again. But having read these interviews I have just downloaded the latest mixtape and am eagerly awaiting listening in greater depth. Rocky is an amazing character: his love of avant garde fashion (yes, the pictures have Rick Owens, Raf Simons and also the new Jeremy Scott x Adidas’) really resonated with me. He seems like a different sort of ‘Ye, not so focused on Couture as he is with the sort of things you only really see in editorials and on Oki-Ni!

“I didn’t want to be a loser, but I didn’t want to fit in at the same time because I just don’t like being ordinary”. Way to take the words right out of my mouth! A fantastic character, and one with plans to take the game by force, preparing for the future already and contemplating renouncing pescatarianism and eschewing meat in any form, alcohol and even weed. Respect for that. Keep your eyes on this maverick, he’s going places you can’t even imagine.
